Weekly Update: Oct. 30 - Nov. 3, 2017


Language Arts
This week in writing, the children will be revising and editing their writing to prepare for publishing. In reading, we will continue exploring nonfiction texts, but switch our topic focus to Forces and Motion, in line with our upcoming Science unit.


Math
This week the students will be using the area model method to solve real world multiplication problems. It is suggested that the students brush up on their multiplication and division facts in order to help them solve these word problems.


Science/ Social Studies
We had a great culture share across grade 4 classes last week. This week, we are concluding our Culture and Identity Unit by looking at all of our learned knowledge, and tying it in with global citizenship.  Students will be writing a reflective piece on this topic.

Weekly Update: Oct. 16-17, 2017


Language Arts
This week in Writing, the children will be working on their introductions and conclusions for their personal essay. In reading, the students will continue with nonfiction reading as they investigate one of the world’s 5 major belief systems.


Math
Students will be finding the multiples of a number, using various strategies including skip counting. They will be demonstrating their understanding of factors and multiples of whole numbers. Please be sure that your child is practicing his/her multiplication facts at home.


Science/ Social Studies
This week students will be finishing their cultural presentations ensuring that they have included information on factors that have influenced their cultural identity.  Students will be presenting their slides and information on Oct. 25th to other students in Grade 4.

Weekly Update: Oct 9 - 13, 2017


Language Arts
This week in writing, we are beginning to publish our first opinion essay. This will include typing the essay on the computer and then revising and editing to make the writing even better. In reading, we will continue with nonfiction texts and strengthen our skills in finding the main idea and details.


Math
Students will be learning about factor pairs and determining which numbers are prime and which numbers are composite.The students will also be playing games that involve multiplication and division in order to solidify their facts.


Science/ Social Studies
It is a short week.  Students will continue to work on their culture slides and identity posters.


Resources
As we are studying prime and composite numbers in math here are a few games that will give your child practice at recognizing these numbers. One game is called Fruit Shoot and another is a helping game about Prime and Composite numbers. Once they have played these games they could test themselves on Prime and Composite Numbers.


Announcements
No school on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th October. We will be having  Goal Setting Conferences with parents and students in our homerooms.

Gentle Reminder:  If both the parents are travelling and children are in someone else’s care, prior to departing the parents must fill out a short or long term Guardianship form and deliver it to the office.
